‘Time spent with cats is never wasted’. Sigmund Freud
This quote finds new meaning when you step into Cat Heaven.
A first Cat Gift Shop of its kind in South Africa.

Those succumbing to their curiosity and stepping into the shops at 35 Bright Street, Somerset West, will soon be transported to a cat lover’s paradise.
Local resident, Valerie Steinmann, spent the last 20 years travelling the world and it was in Thun, Switzerland where she saw what she describes as “a true cat lover’s shop”. It was then that she started her collection of gifts for her shop. Fulfilling her dream of travelling, shopping and cats, (and although currently engaged in the study of Ethology, specialising in cats) Valerie constantly travels, searching for unique gifts.
Cat Gifts for Everyone
On the request of customers, Cat Heaven also carries gifts for cats.
‘It’s literally a shop for cat lovers. I felt like I was in cat heaven, being a cat lover myself’.
Playing mom to her two fur children Tigger, who has since passed on, and Jinx has over the years lured her into several of these shops in Europe, Asia and the United States (US), and stirred the desire to give local cat lovers the same thrill she has experienced.
A lot of Cat Heaven cat gifts are bought from overseas. Adding to the cat-citement is something that especially those who love cats but can’t keep them, will truly appreciate.
In June, Cat Heaven opened South Africa’s first Cat Café which is a home for rescued cats. Where Capetonians can visit and enjoy cake and cat cuddles with rescue cats that have found shelter on our business’ premises.
Cat Cafés are common all over Asia and catching up fast in the US, and now a first in Cape Town. Some Cat Cafés, however, deals with a certain breed . . . the beautiful cats, but ours is going to be different, aimed at assisting cats in need of a home.
Cat Café includes a tea garden where patrons can enjoy a cup of ‘catfee’ (coffee) or a “cat-a-tonic” drink. So far the response to Cat Heaven has been very ‘paw-sitive. Our clients have said that these are the gifts that they have been waiting for.
You’ll generally find that senior citizens can’t keep pets in retirement homes or apartments. You may find one person in the family that is allergic to cats but there might be others that love cats, and these are people that can come to our Cat Café and give each other love.
